Cherry Hooker

History Of The Cherry Hooker Cocktail:

cherry hooker brandy orange juice cocktailThe Cherry Hooker has a bit of a lewd name for a cocktail. This of course isn’t much different than the name of the Porn Star cocktail or the variety of shots a nightclub might put on special.

There doesn’t seem to be much of a history for this cocktail, with no suggestion on where it might have originated or who came up with the idea. As with many cocktails, the Cherry Hooker probably came about from an excess of cherry brandy that needed to be used up. Considering the orange juice base, let’s also deduce that the cocktail may have come from a southern state such as California or Florida.

Regardless of how this cherry brandy cocktail came about, this drink has to be one of the easiest ways to consume the rarely used liqueur.

Ingredients in a Cherry Hooker

  • 1 oz Cherry Brandy
  • 7 oz OJ (Orange Juice)
  • Dash Grenadine Syrup
  • Orange Slice or Wheel
  • Cocktail Cherry

Preparation of the drink:

  1. Add ice to a tall glass, such as a Collins glass
  2. Add your dash of grenadine
  3. pour in your orange juice
  4. float your cherry brandy on top
  5. Garnish with orange slice and cherry
  6. Serve and enjoy

You are able to make this cocktail Martini style too, which may be better fit for the event or party you choose to make this at.

  1. Chill a martini glass with ice
  2. Add the cherry brandy and 2 ounces of orange juice to a cocktail shaker half filled with ice
  3. Give that shaker a good 4-5 shakes
  4. Dump ice from your chilled martini glass
  5. Add a dash of grenadine into the bottom the glass
  6. Carefully strain your shaker contents into the chilled martini glass
  7. Garnish with the orange slice and cherry
  8. Serve

If you have a little extra cherry brandy kicking around and you are tired of making up Shanghai and Singapore Slings, then why not whip up a Cherry Hooker!
