Exploring the Made With Love Cocktail Competition – Vancouver


In the past, the annual Made With Love Cocktail Competition was held at The Roundhouse in Yaletown.

Made With Love holds cocktail competitions for the top bartenders all across Canada. Winners from Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City, Calgary & Vancouver square off head to head in each city, then the winners move on to compete in the finals.

Bartenders came from all over Vancouver & represented themselves & their establishments. In 2012 the establishments represented were: 

  • Fiamo Italian Kitchen, 
  • The Oakwood Bistro, 
  • Pair Bistro, 
  • Lobby Lounge Bar at Fairmont Pacific Rim, 
  • Calabash Bistro, 
  • Jules Bistro, 
  • Indépendant, 
  • The Keefer Bar, 
  • Max’s Burgers, 
  • Calabash Bistro, 
  • Clough Club,
  • Bitter Tasting Room

Back then, the Judges Choice Winner was Keenan Hood. Keenan created “Unpredicted Season” which was

  • Hornitos Tequila,
  • Lemon Juice,
  • Salted Plum
  • Chrysanthemum Flower & Anise Syrup
  • Egg White

Keenan then rimmed with a combination of Hawaiian Black Sea Salt, Lime Salt & Habanero Sugar. A very tasty and creative cocktail for sure. We should have grabbed a picture!

The Public’s choice winner for 2012 was Shea Hogan, with the “Girvan Mark”

  • Hendricks Gin,
  • Jägermeister,
  • Cucumber & Mint Shrub,
  • Bittered Sling Orange & Juniper Bitters,

Sean then finished off the cocktail with a super creative foam. He made it with Egg White, Grapefruit Juice, Makers Mark Bourbon, Lemongrass Simple Syrup. A single sprig of Rosemary was used as a garnish. It would have been nice to have that rosemary scorched a little with a torch.
